Getting Started: Printing Policy

This page is information mainly for the UNSW IT Support Personnel.

Printing Policy

In order to print from any of the NewSouth Solutions systems (e.g. Financials, HR or Student), you must have a printer that meets the following criteria:

  • The printer must be listed in the "Supported Printers" list (see below)or emulate a printer that is
  • The printer should be directly accessible via TCP/IP or be connected to a departmental print server, which supports the LPD protocol.
  • You must 'register' the printer with the Technical Support Team (see below)
  • Locally connected printers are no longer supported by NSS.
Please note that local printers are no longer supported by NewSouth Solutions. This policy has been introduced to improve the stability of the NewSouth Solutions systems. Supporting a wide variety of printers with their own drivers has been the main reason for some initial instability in the production system.

Printer Registration

To register your printer, please complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the NewSouth Solutions Printer definition form located at: http://www.nss.unsw.edu.au/nss_printers.html. (You may require assistance from your local technical support person)
  2. Send the completed form to the Technical Support Group: Hard Copy: Academic Computing Support Unit, 14th Floor Library Building Fax: 9385 1794.

The form should have all fields filled out, or there may be a delay in processing the request. The Technical Support Group will verify the details on the form, and add the printer to a list within Citrix. This will be completed within 7 working days of submitting the form. You will be prompted to select the printer you wish to use when you first log on to any of the NewSouth Solutions systems Supported Printers Drivers Below is a list of printer drivers, which the NewSouth Solutions printing system will support. This should account for most of the printers currently being used at UNSW.
